In the game, you start out as a new Pokémon trainer. You will meet, catch and breed many Pokémon on your journey to improve your skills and become the best Pokémon trainer possible. Along the way, you'll help all sorts of people and thwart the evil plans of those who want to use Pokémon for their nefarious purposes. Of course, you can't do this alone - you'll need to work with your partner Pikachu or your partner Eevee along with your fellow Pokémon allies!
You will meet either Pikachu or Eevee when you start your adventure. Pikachu or Eevee will be your companion throughout your adventure and will grow with you. Unlike regular Pokémon, your partner prefers to stay out of their Poké Ball, allowing it to be slung from your shoulder or perched on your head. It doesn't seem interested in evolving either!
Your partner will look a little different depending on whether they are male or female. You have to see for yourself what gender your partner will be!
Books by Pikachu
It has red electric pouches on its cheeks and raises its tail to check its surroundings. Your partner Pikachu will ride with you on your shoulder. A female Pikachu has a heart-shaped tail.
He has a mane of fluffy hair around his neck. Some people say you can start looking like the coach who becomes your partner. Your partner Eevee will ride on your head during your adventure!
Does the partner Eevee have a special appearance?
A regular Eevee doesn't look any different, male or female. But if you partner with a female Eevee, you'll notice that her tail appears to be marked with a heart-shaped pattern! But that's only the case with partner Eevee!
On any journey, you are sure to encounter obstacles. Maybe your path is blocked, or you have to cross the sea to get where you need to be.
Luckily, your partner can learn useful secret techniques to help you!
Secret Techniques are special abilities your partner learns that can be used outside of combat. Remove problem trees with Chop Down or skim the water with Sea Skim. Sky Dash lets you quickly revisit places and cities you've been to. Your partner will make it easy for you to explore the Kanto region as you continue your adventure!
Your partner can learn some unique moves that no other Pokémon can learn. By your side throughout the journey, your companion needs reliable movement to ensure you are ready for any challenge.
Sometimes, when you shower your partner with love, they send you a signal during the fight. Shake your disconnected Joy-Con when the partner signal appears for your partner to use their special partner power.
Your partner can even send you a signal when they're not the one fighting. If you answer, it will cheer up the Pokémon in battle by increasing its stats!
When you see the partner enter the fight, your partner can use Pikachu Pika Papow. The power of this move will increase based on how good friends you and your Pikachu are.
Pikachu can also learn the water-type move Splishy Splash. This move has a chance to stun opponents!
When you see the partner enter the fight, your Eevee partner can use Veevee Volley. The power of this move increases based on how good friends you and your Eevee are.
Your Eevee also has a water-type move it can learn: Bouncy Bubble. This turn heals Eevee for half the damage it deals to the opponent.
The electric attack Buzzy Buzz paralyzes the opponent after hitting it.
Make good use of the fire attack Sizzly Slide. This move will always leave the opponent burned!
play with your partner
Between exploring and battling, it's a good idea to hang out with your Pokémon friends. Enjoy some playtime with Pikachu or Eevee to strengthen your bond with them. It stays on your arm so you can pet, feed and even tickle it. Good things can happen when the two of you get closer.
You can play with your partner Pikachu or Eevee when not in battle by selecting the Pikachu or Eevee icon from your main menu. The more time you spend with your partner, the more he will love you!
